Every one of us tends to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. It doesn’t matter where you live; the ultimate goal for every person is to live a fulfilled and happy life.

Not too many people on the planet get the chance to do it, though. Those who were lucky enough to be born in modern and developed countries get to work for achieving their dreams, while those born in third world countries struggle.

Based on this, it’s evident that the environment often prevents your self-development. To grow, you need to improve the environment. In most cases, a lifetime is not enough to do it. Working for future generations and creating a better environment for them is a dedication to many.

Their work lets us be able to achieve the self-development we strive for. But, what self-development really is? How are these things connected? Keep up if you want to find out!

What is Self-development?

Self-development or personal development is an extended life plan that every person sets in front of them about what they want from themselves. Depending on many factors, this plan can be all sorts of things, from creating a loving and harmonious family to being the best boxer in the world.

The environment we live in largely dictates what we’re going to want out of life. Kids growing up in wealthy and luxurious neighborhoods surrounded by movie stars and famous athletes will surely want a piece of the stage lights in the future.

At the same time, the self-development plan for those living in the Asian mountains with poor vegetation and no electricity will be far from being a movie star. You can say that their self-development is deeply influenced by the lack of basic needs most people in the world have.

Do you have basic needs to grow?

What are basic needs? People living in developed countries take these things for granted, but billions worldwide have no access to them. Did you know that 940 million people have no access to electricity? Did you know that 2.1 billion people have no access to clean drinking water? That’s nearly one in every three people living on this planet.

You can say that access to food, clean water, electricity, and air are some of those basic needs. If you have them all, consider yourself lucky, as these are the main issues that might control your future and your sense of self-development.

How to improve the environment you live in?

Even if you live in Australia, you can still do so much to improve the environment you live in. One of the biggest problems is pollution. Giant industrial facilities, factories, and power plants are polluting the environment.

Getting electricity to our homes is done through different fuel sources, and some pollute the environment tremendously. Investing in alternative energy sources is a must, and everyone can add value to this fight for a better future.

What you can do is installing solar panels on your home and, with it, help others who have no access to this basic need. If you become more independent and let the big factories alter their production to those in need, you’ll create a better environment for everyone else.

How the environment affects your self-development?

Imagine not having electricity, as we mentioned previously. First, you won’t be able to read this article. You also won’t have access to information, and most importantly, you won’t know where the world is headed. With the internet, TV, and radio, everyone around the world get to be connected.

That widens your visions and expectations. You dream big and aim for more. On the other hand, struggling every day with having food on your plate, going miles to get fresh drinking water, and other issues will keep you stuck. We are what we see around us, and our self-development plan is dictated by the surrounding and the opportunities we get in life.

Wrapping up

We used to think that nothing’s hard if we set our mind to it. This is an excellent way of thinking, no doubt, but it won’t work with serious environmental issues like the ones described above. The conclusion would be – improve your environment if you want to grow more.
