Pamela 3 Weeks Into the Ketogenic Diet

My beautiful wife, Pamela, recently decided that she was not happy with her weight, and made a decision to change. Pamela is a nurse, so she knows only too well that obesity is the 2nd leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Obesity kills more than 300,000 people EVERY YEAR in the US alone!!! To put that into perspective, that's TEN TIMES the number of people killed by guns, and nearly NINE HUNDRED TIMES the number of people killed in plane crashes in 2016.

Beyond the fact that she'd like to be around to see her grand-kids, she also wanted to feel better about her body and get back the energy she once had which she knows comes along with being healthy.

Pamela looked at the medical evidence behind different diets, and after considering multiple plans, she decided to give the Ketogenic diet (Keto) a try.

Not quite three weeks in, Pamela has already lost 12lbs, says she is not nearly as hungry as she used to be, and things are getting easier.  Keep reading for the full story and be sure to sign up for updates on Pamela's journey if you are not already on our mailing list!

What Challenges Have You Faced on the Keto Diet?

“The biggest issue with keto is being around my friends in restaurants. It is tough to sit and watch them eat things that I cannot have. On the flip side of that, I've started noticing that several of my friends have been eating much healthier, so not only has this helped me, it has helped them as well.”

“Beyond that, I've been a little surprised that I'm not craving sugar and soda like I used to, which is one of the big things you cut on keto. The fact that I can still have cheese and many other things that I like really helps with that. It was tough for a little while, luckily I educated myself on the “keto flu” which lasted about a week. I took Potassium and B Complex supplements along with adjusting my diet a little which allowed me to get through that with little more than feeling a bit run down.”

What Benefits Have You Seen on the Keto Diet?

“The most obvious benefit has been what I started the diet for in the first place, weight loss. While I'd like to have had more than 12lbs lost in 3 weeks, I know that is still a solid amount to lose.”

“Another major benefit compared to other diets that I've tried is that I'm not hungry all the time. I've noticed that those around me have started eating healthier, and I like the fact that I can still eat a lot of the things I like such as cheese. That makes it a lot easier to stick to than other diets I've tried. I'm getting more adventuresome and trying new healthy foods as well.”

Pamela is still on her journey, but many others have experienced dramatic changes after taking this step. I've already noticed positive differences in her, a bit more of a pep in her step these days and a noticeable physical difference.

Besides Your Personal Experience, What Evidence is There That the Keto Diet Actually Works?

If you are interested in some of the studies behind the Ketogenic diet, here is some of the research.

Long-term effects of a ketogenic diet in obese patients
Ketogenic diet for Obesity: Friend or Foe?
Very-low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet v. low-fat diet for long-term weight loss: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Note that as with anything in the dieting world, you're going to find conflicting information. Some will say it works, some say it doesn't. That's part of why so many people get confused and end up doing nothing.

My observation?

Many things work…

IF YOU DO THEM!!!

WANT RESULTS? PICK SOMETHING AND DO IT!!!

After reviewing the research and watching my wife over the last few weeks, I personally have to agree that the Ketogenic diet plan is as good as any, and better than most.

The Importance of Physical Activity in Mental Health

Lately, life has been chaotic.  Board meetings at night, long work days, 5 kids that need to be everywhere at the same time, Murphy taking money from the bank practically before it hits my account.  It doesn’t stop. Maybe you can relate. This is where I need to remind myself, and you, to simplify. Leo
