Is it possible to create a life where you only work 4 hours a week yet make more money than you do today?
Maybe.
Our personal development book club selection of the month is The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris. Out to debunk the myth that working harder is the best way to riches, Mr. Ferris discusses how he put his business on autopilot to achieve the lifestyle he wants to live.
Don't Quit Your Job Just Yet
Will you be able to create a thriving business from scratch by only working 4 hours a week? My personal experience is a resounding NO.
But then again, The Personal Growth Channel, LLC. is a business that I started in my spare time, time freed up using many of the principals you will find in this book.
My hope by recommending this book is NOT to make a lot of you believe that you can quit your job with no rainy day fund built up and no money to invest, start working only four hours a week tomorrow and make millions.
That's a terrible idea; it costs money to start a business. Maybe not as much as you might think (or as little as you might think), but if you quit your job, have no revenue coming in already, and are not sure how you are going to eat, you're in for a rough ride. Low sales and poor cash flow is the #1 reason why one in twelve businesses close every year according to this recent report from the Small Busines Administration.
Look For This Mindset Change as You Read
My hope IS that this book will make you think about ways to reduce your efforts while improving your results. Reducing the number of hours you work while improving your bottom line is a topic I frequently help business owners and executives with and am working on creating a course for. This book helps people change their mindset, and has some ideas worth learning.
Enjoy!
