Warren Buffett, one of the richest men on the planet and considered by many to be the best investor that ever lived, is fond of saying “Anything you can do to invest in yourself is by far the best investment you can possibly make”.
The math behind investing in yourself checks out. For every $1 you invest in yourself, you could easily get back $1000 or more EVERY YEAR especially early in your career. But how do you do that?
How Do I Invest in Myself?
Early on in my career as an IT professsional, I learned how investing in myself can make a huge difference. I looked at the current job requirements and salaries for people in my profession, and realized that I could dramatically increase my earnings potential by earning a few certifications.
I paid a few thousand dollars for some courses, a lot of money for me at the time, and obtained a few different key IT certifications. That investment earned me a position with Boeing which increased my income by $20,000…EVERY YEAR. That was my first real experience with what the power of investing in myself could do, and I was hooked.
I've continued to invest in myself over the years through books, courses, and certifications. That dedication to lifelong learning has taken me through the ranks at my company all the way to General Manager, and landed me Director positions on boards with various companies. I've never regretted any investment I've made in myself. In fact, I believe in the power of investing in myself so much that I created this site which is all about investing in yourself. I hope you'll join me and the community that has formed around this idea by clicking here.
How Can You Start Investing In Yourself?
In most industries, it is pretty easy to see how to invest in yourself. You can explore certifications and training available for your industry by clicking here. Pick a program, and start working on it. Once you complete the certification or training, you might want to check out this course on salary negotiation to improve your odds on getting that raise. It's really that simple.
If you'd like to check the math, look up your projected salary with the certification or training on a site like salary.com, and compare that to your existing salary. Click here for an online educational investment calculator you may want to use. If you want to save a little time, trust me when I say that whenever you invest in your career, it'll be worth it.
You can also invest in yourself by subscribing to this site. Personal growth and development is what we're all about. I hope to meet you soon!
